Dear Readers,

I know I’ve been MIA on my blog writing but thanks for hanging in there and for some – for being here!

The Gallery is going through a lot of change and an intense workload to accomplish our two-year goal since its inception as a pop-up Christmas event in 2016. It’s been a labor of love and commitment for a team of unpaid volunteers to pull off a complete reorganization of space, roles and responsibilities and planning for our future.

Although The Gallery is a multi-faceted organization with cultural events and performances, art exhibitions and classes https://www.facebook.com/thegalleryinmalden/ , my work centers around the retail shop. And our team has been operating at full-throttle, bringing in new furniture, found or donated, cleaning and painting it, painting walls, changing the whole floor plan. Where products were once scattered about, you can now see an artist’s whole body of work together! Not only is this a net gain when doing inventory but shows the breadth of each artist’s work – it tells a story, let’s the viewer in on who the artist is and where they’re going with their art.

“Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” – Henry Ford

Of course, such changes in roles bring with it a lot of personal adjustments along the way but we keep on morphing as we go, working through the kinks, shaking off the groans and complaints that go with the territory and get better and clearer each day at what we’re doing. Deadlines come and go. Nothing is perfect but the job is getting done as we plod along. We do this with our hearts and souls because we believe in what we’re doing. We believe that this – this resource for creativity and collaboration is worth it – that this city of Malden and the surrounding area will reap the rewards of our efforts.

Wish I had ready more pics but I’ve been too focused to stop and take them, so here’s some that others shared with me! Will get it together to take more.

The whole effort has been a creative collaborative thrust! Up on that ladder I’m installing a new grid wall that Ginny and I designed from scratch and made, including the scrap metal hangers, on a very limited budget! I think it works better than the ones that you can purchase for big bucks!

The natural world is phenomenal and so much of the man-made world - our architecture, our cities - are stunning accomplishments. They exist hand in hand in both beautiful expressions and sometimes disastrous manifestations. Our entire existence with the natural and the invented is intertwined – each dependent on the other, even as my art evolves, each breathing in the wake of the other. Surface design is one aspect of the process that I love. I thoroughly enjoy the play with color, value and construct, particularly the improvisation which starts with one thing, an idea, a glimpse of a vision, perhaps something that captures my eye for a moment in time and it grows organically. I become focused on whatever piece I'm working on and follow my muse to find my way.
